Ok, I think this should be the last post for a while. Can you just look at my shopping list and give me the all clear before I pull the trigger?
Banana Pi
https://jiffyshop.com.au/SBC/banana-pi/1...na-pi.html (is this the right model? Is this an M1?))
Power supply and micro usb cable
https://jiffyshop.com.au/SBC/accessories...pply-.html (This will be fine to power the USB HDD via the Banana Pi board?)
Case
https://jiffyshop.com.au/SBC/banana-pi/4...a-pi-.html (have a question about this later)
SD Card
I have two 8gig Sandisk SD Cards
http://i.imgur.com/88jCqKC.jpg
One is 10 speed the other is 4. I'm assuming it's best to use the 10? Is there a site I can check compatibility?
Question about case:
I read somewhere that the Banana Pi has really bright LEDs and with a clear case they flash really bright at night? They said it was better to use a black case. I cannot find any black cases locally, only in China on ebay and they will take two weeks to arrive. Will it be ok to run the pi without a case for a couple of weeks until the case arrives? Or are the lights really not that bad and I should just get the clear one?
Here is the black case: http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/2015-NEW-Blac...2a483f3d3f (It says Banana Pi M1 - is that right?)
Thanks
PS. I see there is a Banana Pi M3 coming out soon? With 2gig RAM and an Octa-Core CPU. Would that be better for more my needs? Or not worth the wait/extra costs?
Sorry about all the questions. I didn't realise I still had so many!

It will always be better but if you really need it is another question. And it will always come out new models
I usually buy the latest model when it arrives or at the beginning of the life cycle. If I know that a new model is coming out soon, 1-2 months, I usual wait.
I promise you. You will learn more after you buy your product and test. Do one thing at the time and whips you are done. Then you take a backup :p

Thanks for the reply. I think I'll stick with the Banana Pi M1 rather than wait for the M3, as the M3 seems difficult to find (especially in Australia) and I really want to get my NAS up and running ASAP.
Did you see my other questions in my post by any chance?

I'm a raspberry pi user and I'm on my phone. Can't write novels now

Hello,
I recommend Mike having a quick look at the shopping list as a full confirmation. But to me it looks fine.
I do recommend waiting for the M3 as its specifications look very promising. But we don't have any guides on it up yet and currently don't have an ETA. Unless Mike is planning something.
With the lights issue, my ODROID has decently bright lights. I can see them relatively well during the day (if I'm looking in its general direction), at night like most lights is very noticeable. I presume that the LED's for the ODROID and Banana Pi would be similar.
Setting up any bare electronics outside its casing isn't bad nor is it good. The main issue is dust and accidents. Dust in the heat sink (CPU fan, I don't remember if a Banana Pi comes with a heat sink) and on the components; when in the heat sink it causes the fan blade to not rotate at optimal speeds (after a lot of build up) and when on the components it may cause small issues like dust collection (degrades performance a little bit) and maybe even abrasions.
Regards,
Audi

Hello,
Oh bugger, it depends on what you need the Pi for if its only going to be a NAS/Torrent Box the m1 should be enough.

Loose nut, your shopping cart looks fine. Those SD cards should work but unfortunately you'll have to test them to see.
You will be able to flash the class 10 card faster but you may get better random read/write speeds from the class 4. That said, I flash a lot so I always use class 10 cards.

Thanks so much! I know I'm getting annoying with all the questions! What about the case? Should I wait two weeks for the black or get the clear? Just worried about the lights at night as it will be in a common area.

Ah yes about the case. I use the LeMaker Banana Pi units and the LEDs are not that bad. Also the images I use disable some of the unnecessary lights. If you are sensitive to light then you should probably wait for the black case.
This forum is all about questions and answers, they are not annoying but rather what this place is built upon
