I am currently using 3 Raspberry Pis that act as my NAS and Downloader. I have them divided into 3 main sections:

• Movies & Torrents
• TV & Usenet
• Music & Books
  

I have things divided up the way they are because I don’t want one action (Verifying a torrent, repairing/extracting a NZB) to bring my entire system down to a halt. As well as having open USB ports and not having to resort to a USB hub. This also allows me to only have my torrent traffic route through the VPN. Since Usenet is encrypted via SSL.


I have 3 more Raspberry Pi’s (Two B and one 2) that are the HTPC. Each is running The latest version of OpenElec.

Impressive setup! I am currently running the same setup on my Synology NAS but I feel that it dosn't have enough juice for it and it all become quite laggy.
To recently i have used a Intel Nuc for the same setup but it has now died.

How does the RPI handle the workload of unraring and moving files and so forth?
What kind of HDDs are you using?

Since I have most of my stuff complety automated I don't really notice how long it takes to unrar and move.


As for hard drives. I am currently running 4 Seagate 2TB External from Amazon. The ones I have are the old models there is a newer one out that is cheaper at the moment. However I'm currently running out of space and I'm wishing I had the 4TB model. Keep in mind 3TB hard drives are nortieously unstable and tend to crash best to avoid them from all manufacturers.

The 300GB Music/Book HD is just an old internal IDE drive that I had laying around. I connected it via a IDE/SATA to USB adapter I also bought on Amazon.

Everything was running smooth but I am currently running into issues with my VPN not wanting to auto start but everything works when I run the same command from the command line it works. I'm also having issues with CouchPotato. So I may need to redo DarkMovie and see what is going on with it.

Are you using OpenVPN?
