Thank you, I wonder if only using the DDNS url is sufficient, could you check?

Do you mean just adding the ddns url to "custom server access urls" might be sufficient?
I disabled the Nginx service and I can still reach my plex from outside my LAN.
It seems that just adding my ddns url to "custom server access". Does the trick.
I have a question though. Doesn't this set up mean anyone can access my server through my ddns url?
Shouldn't I consider this a security risk?

It may be some cache, can you try another browser?
Plex should still prompt for a password (if it doesn't disable the IP without authentication part)

You're right again. Login credentials we're cached Tried logging in from a different browser and plex prompted me for user and pass. FYI: the only thing I needed to do to make this work was add my ddns URL to "Custom server access URLs" (don't forget "http://") I didn't touch the setting below it ("list of networks that are allowed without auth")
So I guess the problem is solved. I can now access my plex server from outside my home network even though it still uses tun0.
[note] plex still claims to be "not available outside your network" in its server>remote access settings. But it loads up fine via my dynamic dns url.
Given the fact that plex is still using tun0 rather than eth0 I shouldn't mark this topic [solved] however, I do now have the functionality I was looking for.

Yes, that is a good point, I do think if you are going through the dynamic DNS that your Plex server is not sending the video streams through the VPN. However, Plex is probably still binding to all adapters (which it does by default) so this is probably the easiest workaround that doesn't involve iptables and gets the functionality you want.
You are right, the remote access through plex.tv (which IMO should be avoided anyway) will still be off since when you use a VPN their route becomes the top priority on your system.

Exactly what I was thinking.
One more thing: is there a way to connect securely? With ssl?

Yes, here is the ssl guide, that was my first attempt at a multi-platform guide, if it is confusing let me know.

It's not confusing, partly because it's pretty straightforward to set up.
However I would still split the guide up into separate chapters to avoid people using, for example: Windows commands on Linux.

Thank you for your feedback Gompy, I was torn between doing it that way and the way I did it. I did this
Install openssl
Linux
Mac
Windows
Create certificate
Linux Mac Windows
Add to virtual ost
Linux, Mac, Windows
You are suggesting
Linux - Install, create, add to virtual host
Mac - Install, create, add to virtual host
Windows - Install, create add to virtual host
I may just make them separate, should help people find them more easily too.
I'm assuming you're all up and running with ssl now?

Not yet, I glanced over your guide, but am at work now.
I will set up OpenSSL when I get home. I'll let you know when I'm all set.
