I seem to be missing something. I used the installer image http://www.htpcguides.com/orange-pi-pc-h...ler-image/ and everything seemed to go fine. When it was finished I did a reboot. I tried to login in with pi and the password htpcguides didn't work. Not sure why, but I just logged in as root and changed the password. After changing the password I logged out and tried logging in as pi again. It logged me in and then logged me right back out. What am I missing?
I also tried to access the web ui from a separate computer at x.x.x.x:7600 and x.x.x.x and it says the server is not found. (I put the appropriate numbers in for the x's. It's set up in the router to have a static ip.)
Any ideas? Thanks.
Added note. I opened Plex on my Roku and it says no servers found so apparently it isn't running.
Progress.
I logged in with root and checked htop. I saw that a bunch of htpc python scripts were running so I went to x.x.x.x:8085 and was able to load HTPC Manager. Some of the other programs may be running too, I just didn't readily recognize them. I'm going to play with HTPC manager and see where I get.

OK it looks like HTPC manager is the only thing running, so if anyone has some ideas I'd appreciate it. Thanks.

Are you using the Ubuntu or Debian image? Did you update to latest kernel?
Can you show output from netstat
Just to make sure I understand, you used the installer to install a bunch of programs?

Yeah, sorry if that wasn't clear. I wrote the Ubuntu image to an sd card. I mounted a 128gb thumb drive as explained here http://www.htpcguides.com/properly-mount...pberry-pi/ . I then ran the installer and installed several of the programs. Plex, HTPC Manager, Transmission, Couch Potato, and Cherry Music for sure.
Is there a way to copy the orangepi output remotely? Or can you tell me what to look for? There are 7 lines 4 tcp and 3 tcp6. Here's some of the info

I looked at htop again yesterday and it said htcpmanager was being run by root. I ran the installer under root and decided maybe that was the problem. Should I start from scratch redo everything under the pi user?

Oh yeah. To answer your other question I did run the kernel update. I'm running a fresh install on a new sd card and I'll run it under the pi user to see if that makes a difference.

Ok after the fresh install while in the pi user before restart the following programs seem to be running
Plex
HTPC Manager
Headphones
However I again can only login to htpc manager remotely. Plex is not available.
After reboot I again cannot login to pi. It just automatically kicks me out, however the password did work without having to be reset.
In root after running htop I again found that htpc manager is the only thing running.
There are some errors in the boot sequence which mostly goes to fast for me to read them. Transmission doesn't load because the daemon can't be found. I'm not sure what other errors there are, but I'll reboot a couple times and see if I can catch them.
So anyone have any ideas?

Did you expand the sd card as outlined in the guide?
I may have made an error and it could be the user orangepi and not pi. However, the installer checks if your user exists and exits if the user doesn't exist.

By expand the sd card I assume you mean the fs_resize and yeah I did.
pi should be fine because on the fresh install I was able to log in as pi before I ran the installer.
However, I have to assume I did something wrong. I had a spare Raspberry Pi sitting around so I decided I'd give that a try. Went through the exact same process only using the Raspberry Pi image and got essentially the exact same result except htop isn't installed so I did ps -axg instead. The first time I ran it HTPC Manager was there but that's it. Now not even that is launching. Also when I tried to install htop it told me not enough space. It's an 8gb card. I ran df and there's space just not in root. Is it possible things are trying to install in the wrong place and failing because there's not enough space there. Finally I did dpkg -l and the only program I could find installed was samba.
I'm now about as confused as can be.

I will test tomorrow, on the Raspberry Pi image you also need to expand the sd card with raspi-config.
About samba, I didn't write the code for that part but it should be OK, that is the only component I can currently think may be causing the issue.
Tomorrow I will test the Raspberry Pi and Orange Pi image installing the software you mentioned:
Plex, HTPC Manager, Transmission, Couch Potato, and Cherry Music
Just for completeness can you tell me the exact .img names of the files you are trying on the Orange Pi and Raspberry Pi?

Ok I missed the raspi-config part. I'll retry the Raspberry Pi. Thanks for that.
The images are:
HTPCGuides.OrangePiPC.Ubuntu.Vivid.MediaServerInstaller.img
HTPCGuides.Raspberry.Pi.Media.Server.Installer.v1.img
The programs loaded were:
Plex
HTPC Manager
Transmission
Couch Potato
Cherry Music
Samba
SoftEther
Headphones
On the Raspberry Pi I also installed the monitoring, Kodi, and Sick Rage. I may have done Sick Rage on Orange Pi as well but I can't remember. I'm going to do the Raspberry Pi now and I'll try to do the Orange Pi again tonight as well and whatever I get done I'll post the results so you'll know if I get any improvements.
