Did you access Plex through plex.tv?
Have you restarted your plex server since?
Find your plex.js files and make sure they are correctly modified.
Code:
find / -name plex.js
If they are then there is another js file somewhere conflicting
Launched Plext.tv using firefox in cognito mode and getting the error still.
I found only one file and that doesnt have the fix initially. I followed the guide and fixed. But plex works absolutely bliss using roku as it supports direct play. No lag or whatsoever
I tried changing the message in the method.
FYI.. i used winscp and edited in windows and replaced it in server. After restart it dint display this message. So it takes the message somewhere else ?
Code:
validateTranscoder: function(t, n) {
return false;
var r = i("This server is not powerful enough to convert video.-Who said so"),
o = i("This server is not powerful enough to convert video. You may be able to enable playback by increasing your quality setting.");
if (!t.canDirectPlay) {
var c = n.transcodeServer;
if (n.type === s.types.VIDEO) {
var d = c.get("transcoderVideo"),
u = t.canDirectStreamVideo || !c.get("transcoderVideoRemuxOnly");
if (!d || !u) {
if (l.warn("MDE: Unable to play; server unable to transcode video"), c.get("synced")) return i("Synced videos cannot be transcoded to a lower quality. Please increase your quality setting.");
if (n.quality) {
if (n.quality.index === a.ORIGINAL) return r;
var h = e.clone(n);
return h.quality = e.extend({
index: a.ORIGINAL
}, e.pick(n.quality, "attribute")), this.getMediaDecision(h).canDirectPlay ? o : r
}
return o
}
} else if (n.type === s.types.MUSIC) {
var p = c.get("transcoderAudio");
if (!p) return l.warn("MDE: Unable to play; server unable to transcode music"), i("This server is not powerful enough to convert music.")
}
}
},

I have a funny feeling that when you go on plex.tv it grabs a different js file but I even got this problem when I accessed the Plex server directly so that's probably not it. If you are willing to keep digging in the different .js files you find and look for the error message you are getting we can probably fix the right one

This is strange because the Web client in HTML5 (I believe) supports srt subtitles natively so that transcoding isn't necessary, which browser are you using (try different ones in any case).
Chromecast with subtitles is definitely an issue, especially with HD video. I do not know if this is a limitation of the Chromecast not playing subtitles natively or Plex not casting to the Chromecast so the subtitles are native. If you can navigate to Plex using the Chromecast and bypass casting, that will help narrow it down.
This is one of the reasons I don't use chromecasts, for the same price you can get many other devices that have the power to play back everything natively.

Hello again,
I'm getting the same errors tryng to cast from PMS either to my browser and My chromecast.
I followed the guides you suggested (the plex.js file was already set in the right way) and tryed with firefox in incognito mode. Still the "server is not powerful enought to convert video". Tryed almost every type of video, noone works.
Im using your PMP headless image with Jessie for Banana PI, moved the o.s. to an usb pendrive and installed sambad, cupsd, saned. Ran your installer to update the PMP and configured everything as you suggested. I can stream music (works with chromecast too), but no video at all.
I'm accessing the PMP from local only. Version is 0.9.12.13
This sound strange to me, since the BPI should be more powerfull then RPI, and from htop I don't see extreme cpu usage when trying to stream.
Can you please help me?

Update: I fixed half of the problem: I logged in plex.tv and this overwrote my plex.js files, so I went back editing them again, this time everything was messed up so I had to modify them. Actually now streaming to browsers works, but still I can't get this damn chromecast working.
I'm really about to throw it out of the window and spend some money in something better.....

Great murray, I wonder if somehow the Chromecast uses the plex.tv javascript file when you use its app. Remember this is primarily a Plex issue not the device. Plex are doing this to prevent devices they do not think should be transcoding from giving a suboptimal user experience. However, I think it is a bad decision to not have an advanced option to allow users to attempt transcoding rather than hardcoding it so it's not possible.
Perhaps you can ask on the plex forums if it is possible to find out where this check is being done (on the server or in the plex chromecast client).
Sorry your device isn't working as intended.

I totally agree with you. I opened a topic in plex forum and explained the problem. Will keep you updated.

We are getting closer to fixing this issue once and for all, see here for an update and test the guide in progress.
