Hey guys I'm trying to set up the mentioned above but my problem is how do I transfer files or sync from the torentbox to the PMS... I only have one external hard drive and would I need another?
I am doing this method because I am trying to avoid my PMS to be in the VPN network also processing is easier if it handles just one simple task.
Thanks for the help.

For that you can use rsync, you set up shared SSH keys and have the downloader run rsync on a cronjob to sync every 5 minutes. I do not have a guide for this but that is the gist of it.
Deluge is heavy, have you considered using a lighter torrent client like Transmission?

I run a Pi2 with Transmission and OpenVPN it works very nicely. I very rarely have issues with it.
I would suggest having the Pi2 Have a small hard drive or a large SD card. Then creating a NFS share for the Pi3/CouchPotato to "watch" and then move it to the proper folder on the main storage drive of the Pi3

Why not just mount a samba share?

This way your pi2 will be downloading directly to the hard drive that is mounted on the pi3.

Samba uses a lot more CPU then NFS. Also that would be a TON of traffic going back and forth. Keep in mind that NIC's on a PI are USB based. That means they share the bandwidth with all of your other USB devices including your hard drives.
