I have an Odroid xu4 (8-core ARM device) running plexmediaserver on OpenMediaVault. I followed the guild here http://www.htpcguides.com/fix-plex-serve...erry-pi-2/ to allow the server to transcode video on the fly. This works great and I've been able to watch videos that it wouldn't stream before. However, if I enable subtitles in a 1080p video, I'm back to getting the not-powerful-enough error. Disable the subtitles and the error goes away again.
Mike said I should come here and try to troubleshoot.

Which Plex device are you using to play the media?
Which version of Plex server are you currently running?
Recent versions of PMS have built-in support for subtitles in the web player (though I personally have not tested). Can you test in the web player?
Are you using plex.tv to access your media or doing so directly on the PMS server's IP or dynamic DNS address?
Please use mediainfo to get the properties of the video.

That may be the plugin version and not the Plex version, the current version is PlexMediaServer-0.9.12.19.1537.
I just remembered OMV only works with Wheezy and Wheezy has an older version of libc6 (2.13) that is incompatible with newer versions of PMS (requires 2.16 or 2.19 IIRC).
To test, please get another SD card (or backup your current one) and use Debian jessie and follow the tutorial for installing PMS and re-test that media. It looks like the subtitles are external srt files which may or may not be supported by the plex web player.

Ok, correction. That version 2.4.9 is the web interface version. The server version is 0.9.12.4.

You can see that version is slightly old (about 6 months).
After you've done the tests we can move on from there and diagnose further.
OMV will probably be compatible with jessie eventually, see thread.

as long the subtitles are srt you should be able to stream (i can with a raspberry 2)
you need pms server version 9.8.6 or above and a browser that support html5 (chrome).
to do that go to plex media server from chrome ---> setting/web/player:
-flag "experimental player"
-set burn subtitles to "only image format"
save
it should work on local network and from remote too (unless you have bandwith issues)
it doesnt save the parameters, looks like every time you log in you have to set them again.

This is simply because plex has always required transcoding when subtititles are concerned. Recent updates have improved this situation significantly where transcoding is often no longer needed, I'd suggest you try again on the latest version of Plex Media Server. It's so new though that unless you've got a Plex Pass you might not have this feature yet.
Also, there are still plenty of bugs in Plex which mean things are transcoded when they shouldn't be. If you can provide some specifics I could check this out for your subtitle type and see if I can replicate it and log a bug request.

@marshalleq this feature is available in non-Plex pass versions luckily. The only issue now is if the Plex client device/app supports subtitles natively.
