I've had WHS 2011 since 2011. I bought the software because when I decided I wanted to build a home server WHS v.1 was no longer available to purchase.
Overall it's worked as it's suppose too, but I want to upgrade the hardware and give it more task. I successfully installed uTorrent on it but I can no longer access it. Seems WHS 2011 has turned it off as a service so when it reboots for whatever reason (updates).
Microsoft is no longer sending out system updates as of 4/2016 but will send out security updates until 2020.
The GUI is the same as Server 2008 and Windows 7 so there's no reason to move away from it that I can think of.
The upgrade plan -
If this goes as planned and I don't have to do a fresh install of the server OS, then we can move on.
As I mentioned I've been using uTorrent for years. It's become bloated, but still functional. My previous ISP didn't seem to care about how much or what I downloaded. However that changed with my current ISP, I have gotten two email warnings about content I downloaded.
To prevent this, I tried a Usenet provider. This worked fine, but it didn't seem as easy as torrents. No ISP flags but then the trial as over and I was running out of space on my server (4 TB).
Since then I have upgraded my HTPC which runs Windows Media Center (Windows 7) to use a cable card tuner which for the first time has allowed me to watch the majority of my content in HD. This upgrade didn't come without problems.
I miss recordings because Windows dropped the tuner and I get a Listening error. This is known problem with this particular USB tuner and I've tried everything tech support has suggested. Still get the error; only a hard reboot of the tuner will allow Windows to recognize again.
The HTPC is having issues now after running flawless for almost 7 years. One or two memory modules have failed and I get an occasional BSOD and because of constant updates from Microsoft, it's no longer viable on the 64 GB SSD it's currently installed too.
I am going to fix/upgrade it and do a repair install of Windows 7 since I also have S3 problems (creates a BSOD), HDMI fails to handshake with the HDTV (Black Screen) and audio drops when coming from idle to Live TV, comes back eventually.
Anyway, I would like to access TV, Movies, Music, Podcast and some documents. I like EZTV for TV Shows, no preference for Movies, Documents or Music.
Podcast I guess could be easily dealt with just give the right software the RSS feed.
Suggestions?

The upgrade plan -
- Relocate data from partition D: to another drive
- Clone system drive (2 TB) and shrink it down to fit on 120 GB SSD
- Replace Case, Motherboard, CPU/APU and Memory
- Install SSD, Reboot, Update Drivers and then add back data drive(s)
