Hi, I have been experiencing wi-fi problems after installing pms. Strangely enough this problem was not present at first and only started occuring after I added my music library to plex. Now whenever Plex runs on the pi2, my entire wifi network, including other pcs on the network and the pi2, get disconnected and cannot reconnect until the pi2 is disconnected. Interestingly I did notice that Plex says there is an update available whereas previously (before the problem started) it said it was up-to-date. Note that when Plex doesn't start (sometimes it doesn't start) I have no problems. Any ideas ? Thanks

I think this is an issue with either the WiFi adapter, its driver or a bug in Plex. There are bugs from time to time in Plex updates, you can run apt-get update and apt-get upgrade to get the new version when uglymagoo updates his repo (it is not always immediate).
To troublehsoot if it is WiFi, use ethernet.
I would recommend against WiFi for stability and throughput reasons.
Are you running the official Raspbian? Wheezy or Jessie?

Hi, Thanks for the quick response and suggestions, I'll check with ethernet and post back. I'm using official pi2 Ubuntu Mate. I followed method 1 of the tutorial exactly with Jessie. The weird thing is that the problem did not start straight away. Everything was fine after adding my Movie Library but then I noticed the problem after having added my Music library. I don't know what went wrong. The only thing I see different is that it says there's an update available (before it was up-to-date). Maybe it did an update check and tried to download the official Linux update which broke something ? Only other thing I clicked was something about allowing an insecure connection when trying to access my other Plex libraries over the network.

I generally recommend against anything GUI for server software on the Raspberry Pi, it's a limited little device so generally you will want all of its resources available for the server services.
Nevertheless it should be working, the other thing you can try is disabling the music library.
Did you connect to plex.tv or you local IP?
btw can you confirm you got the confirmation email on your account when you registered? If you did then my hotmail woes are finally over and I'm a happy man!

The reason for the GUI is that I use it with my TV to browse the web. All my media is stored on a NAS, the point of running PMS on the pi is basically only for the metadata as the files will be streamed directly from the NAS to TV (no transcoding).
I signed into my Plex.tv account in PMS. I could then see my other pms library runnning on another pc but then at one stage it said something like 'cannot connect, allow insecure connetion over local network' which I clicked.
I received the email but it went to my Junk folder unfortunately.

Ah ok understood, everyone's use case is different and the Plex metadata is good.
Generally I avoid plex.tv for logging in because they can push their own plex.js which can cause issues but I know some plex client's force plex.tv usage.
Could you do me a favor and allow it in your regular email folder, I'm thinking hotmail may have an algorithm for users changing email folder destinations.

The main reason for logging in was so that I could manage the library using my other quicker PC with the server running on there. Pretty stupid considering I couldve just accessed the server on the pi directly using its IP. The account on the pi is logged out at the moment since the internet dies as soon as I try logging in.
Sure, I marked it as safe.

You may be able to revert to using the IP.
Thanks for making as safe, now to check if yahoo is still blocking me.

Hi, I tested with Ethernet and the problems remains. If the pi is connected to my network (regardless if its wifi or ethernet) and plex is running; all other devices on my network lose internet access.
I also tried deleting the Music library to no avail.
How can I completely remove everything I did when installing Plex or disable Plex to properly test if Plex is the problem ?
Oh and the only other thing I changed was the hostname of the pi btw.
Thanks
Scratch that about testing if Plex is the problem. I retarted the pi now and noticed that internet is fine across all devices - no surprise that Plex isn't running on the pi (can't access the server). So Plex is definitely the problem.
Also, before installing Plex I had almost 4 GB free...now I have only 2 GB free. How can Plex have used so much space ?

Plex uses a lot of space for metadata, I believe I have or link to a guide on how to relocate your metadata folder.
It may be the distro or current version of Plex then, I stick to the Minibian distro as I experience the fewest issues with it for headless server needs and not using plex.tv
Is Plex regularly failing on boot for you?
To disable Plex you can do this
Code:
sudo service plexmediaserver stop
sudo update-rc.d plexmediaserver disable
It may be worth removing the music folders in Plex to see if it has something to do with that.
