I setup split tunnelling in ubuntu 16.04 and everything seems to be working, but now I occasionally get times where my network connection seems to drop out completely for both the VPN user and all other users. I tried poking around a bit but don't see anything obvious. The only way I can fix the problem is to manually reset the system which is a PITA. Any suggestions on what I should look for next time it happens?

Is it being used with the deluge set up?

Yes it is. Deluge with auto port forwarding.

Thought so. PIA changed their api. Last I looked the current guide is still for the old, which still kinda works. We already have a fix, but drake and Mike are still working on clean code and the new guide. The short answer is, the old portforward.sh doesn't always grab the port, which breaks iptables and deluge.
If you really care I can give you the long answer =)

You'll have to ask drake for the updated code if it's available. It's his baby =)

Hmm OK that makes sense. I saw that it was broken but I thought it just meant the port forwarding didn't work occasionally. Didn't realise it also messed up the iptables. I'll have to look into that new solution.

Yeah it's the way the script does error handling. It's strange that it is set up that way, but it was taken and modded from the PIA supplied code. Before I knew about the new api I tried to fix it within, and it only broke it more. Lol

Thanks Lt Hawk The old PIA API is still working, but it is not reliable anymore. The new API should do the job fine, but it is way harder to automate with scripts, especially for Split Tunnel. We already have a working solution for this, and based on the user feedback, it is working fine. Since the new API was indeed very new, we didn't want to publish the new guide immediately, as it was possible that some changes are introduced which would again brake the script. It looks now that PIA has finalized the new API, therefore we will update the guides with the new scripts soon. I will post an update here once done.
