I followed your guides to get split tunnel VPN running using PIA on headless Ubuntu. I then setup Deluge also using your guides. Port forwarding works but then stops after awhile. Tested from within a thin client install of Deluge on another computer. The only way to get it back is to run "sudo bash /etc/openvpn/portforward.sh". After running the command the port forward check in Deluge thin client works again. I looked through various logs and reviewed config files to try and figure out where the problem is. I checked the iptables when it was working and compared against when it wasn't. I disabled the cron job just in case a failed output was causing the error. The Deluge daemon never loses the port setting. The problem is occurring elsewhere. I just can't seem to track it down. I even rebuilt the server to make sure I didn't miss something.
I do have a Ubuntu desktop running with the PIA client. I used some of your guides to get port forwarding working there and to have the deluge daemon shut down if the VPN tunnel drops. No issues on that system. The only major difference is that it's not using iptables. I'm using two different PIA servers so that the two systems don't step on each other with port forwarding.
Ideally I want to get rid of the Ubuntu desktop and just use the headless server. If anyone can help me troubleshoot this I would greatly appreciate it.
