Hi Mike. Very timely that you have created a guide to install Plex manually. I was going to pester you again about manually updating to the latest Pass user upgrade.
first a little background.
After sucessfully adding the Afraid.org dynamic DNS, Plex on my Pi +2 appeared to finally be running well. Then towards the end of last week it all went pear-shaped yet again. It started with a warning that i had an indirect connection when using the plex app on my iPhone. It was a little flaky, but i figured this might be a sympton of using the dynamic dns!
Then WiFi sync to my phone stopped working. I got a disk almost full - less than 10Gb warning. after some head scratching and a lot of cursing, i realised it was refering. to the Pi's SD CARD. Not my phone. i gave up for that day.
Next morning the wheels had well & truly come off the bus. Plex was saying my server was off-line. It helpfully! created a new server called Raspberry Pi which refused to connect over the net.
After a lot of wated efforts to solve this, I reverted to the back up I made before installing the dynamic dns. I got my old server back and online. Now the "Raspberry Pi" server was unreachable. I cant get Plex to delete it.
Another full day in Plex Hell.
Then to cap it all Plex tells me I need to update. Yet again.
Meanwhile Sync still wasn't working. Stuck at 50%. I solved that this morning by deleting & re-installing the Plex App on my phone.
So I have two questions?
1. do i need to do the full installation to get the Pass upgrade? Or is there a simpler route?
2. Should I attempt to set up Araid.org dynamic DNS again?
I have just found out that during the night prior to my original server going offline, but after my initial sync problem, my home suffered a short Power Cut. Might that explain the server going off-line?
Can i end by sying that Plex are happy to take my money for a Plex Pass, but even when a problem has nothing to do with the Pi, they have have no interest in supporting Pi users. Without your guides and the constant support through the HTPC Guides forum I would never have got this far. Unfortunately I am now questioning my continuing use of their very unstable software.
Thanks again. Roger
