Yes, it generates a longer, secure password dedicated for direct access for an app - in this case monit - that you can use instead of 2 factor authentication.

I have now enabled 2fa on my google account and then generated a app code, added it on my test pi and production pi.
reloaded monit and I got my alerts. sweet

You have to add: set alert abc@mail.com but not on {...}
But didn't work for me.
I also tried { instance } because I don't want mail every time monit reloads but it didnt work either. I don't know if I placed it in the right file. (monitrc)

I responded a while ago, I think instead of restart openvpn you should have it exec stript that restarts openvpn and runs your openvpn -ovpn file to reconnect.
