so, again, i ran sudo apt-get update && apt-get upgrade -y
and it updated PMS to the current release (0.9.14.6)
rebooted and it hung.
killed power, and it restarted, but no PMS running.
tried sudo service plexmediaserver restart
PMS still not running
tried sudo service --status-all
and got
[ + ] plexmediaserver
[ + ] plexmediaserver.dpkg-bak
tried sudo service plexmediaserver stop then sudo service plexmediaserver start
still nothing
so, what can i try next?
this happened to me before, but restarting the service manually fixed it before, this time it isn't.

The latest update was funky. I cannot guarantee anything but you can try just removing and installing again:
Code:
sudo apt-get remove plexmediaserver -y

nope, that made no difference
should note than when i re-installed it, it didn't re-download. it installed it form the previously downloaded package.

This is a bit risky but try purging too
Code:
sudo apt-get remove plexmediaserver --purge
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install plexmediaserver

ok i ran the first command and got the following
Quote:pi@raspberrypi:/$ sudo apt-get remove plexmediaserver --purge
Reading package lists... Done
Building dependency tree
Reading state information... Done
The following packages will be REMOVED:
plexmediaserver*
0 upgraded, 0 newly installed, 1 to remove and 183 not upgraded.
After this operation, 0 B of additional disk space will be used.

plexmediaserver

it seemed to fail.
i then went and checked what services were still installed and got this.
Quote:[ - ] plexmediaserver.dpkg-bak
so does this mean i have another plex service still installed?

Looks like it, can you stop the plexmediaserver service first before removing and try again. Even if you get errors this time update repos and install Plex. For good measure kill the plex folder
Code:
sudo rm -R /usr/lib/plexmediaserver

will i lose my plex database and settings though?
ps, does a plus mean the service is running ?
anyway after running the stop comman on both the plexmediaserver processes.
i still get an error saying plex is being used by another process
Code:
pi@raspberrypi:~$ sudo apt-get remove plexmediaserver --purge

I believe they are in /var/lib but take a backup of the SD card just in case.

ok well i'm still no further forward.
it's not re-downloading PMS, it's installing from the whatever was downloaded originally yesterday.
when checking for running services, does a + mean the services is running or not?
should i have plexmediaserver.dpkg-bak also listed as a service?
