SickBeard on ReadyNAS 104

Hey guys.

I just purchased a Netgear ReadyNAS 104 device and I have discovered some limitations with the way I can have SickRage working. As an example:

I have my SickRage install on my PC and I'm downloading, renaming and moving all files locally on the C:
I want to store all my media on my NAS (V, and have SickRage be able to see that drive and recognize data on it.

Sadly, I have found that I cannot point SickRage to look at a Network Folder (or can I? I don't know....). If that's the case then I need to be able to find a way to keep my automation working, while having my files on the NAS. 

I found that there is a SickBeard for ReadyNAS application that I can install on my NAS. I was wondering if anyone has had any experience with this setup and can lend advice?

Alternatively, if anyone has had experience or knows how to point SickRage to a Network Share (i.e. \\NAS\Videos\TV Shows (V) that would be great!

I am pretty sure you can use Windows to mount a samba share in a folder using a junction folder which are symbolic links similar to Linux.


Run something like this in the command prompt as an Administrator, the first parameter is an empty directory that you create and the second is the path of the samba share (source)

So after doing some playing around I have come across a few errors that I wanted to warn people of.

First off, let me explain my setup really quick. I have a Desktop PC that I built which has a 256GB SSD which has my Windows installed on it and a 5TB RAID0 setup for storage; and now a 4-Bay Netgear ReadyNAS 104 with 4x3TB Drives in a RAID5. They are connected together through a Gigabit switch to allow for fast transfers. I have SickRage installed locally on the C: as well as having Plex Media Server too. I use uTorrent for my downloads.

I set up this way because I was running out of space and I had no redundancy on my drives if something went wrong. I decided it was better to set it up like this so I wouldn't lose any data.

Anyways, I originally had my data organized as such:

Movies -> S:\Videos\Movies
TV -> S:\Videos\TV Shows
Anime -> S:\Videos\Anime

I transferred all of that to the NAS and mapped that new drive to my computer as V:\Videos.


It was then that I realized that SickRage is incapable of seeing Network Drives or locations. This was frustrating but as Mike pointed out, I could just use a symbolic link to make it appear as though the data was still local. So I set it up so that each folder (Movies, Anime and TV Shows) appeared back in the original S drive location by using commands like:

mklink /D S:\Videos\TV Shows V:\Videos\TV Shows

That worked well, I thought. SickRage can see that location as routable in its settings, but when you attempt to have it rename a file to a location on the symbolic link you quickly realize that it will not work. I was met with countless errors that stated it "could not determine free space on target drive" "will assume there is enough free space to proceed" and other problems as well. So it can't do anything with my torrents anymore.

On top of that, with the TV Shows in a different location there is no way for SickRage to tell what files you have anymore or what it needs to download. After a scan it loaded uTorrent with 3000 torrent files because it thought I didn't have any files anymore.

I am now pretty stuck with this and don't know how to proceed anymore. I'm going to come up with a (hopefully) elegant solution to my problems. When I do, I'll update this thread so others can see what may be done for workarounds.

There is a SickBeard App available on the ReadyNAS but I have yet to get that installed, let alone working. I don't have my faith in that application since it isn't even made by the same people.

Can you try setting up a samba share on the Readynas and try having SickRage point to that or are you already using samba to map the V drive?

Have you considered getting a NAS that will run Plex and SickRage (a Synology would do)?

To make the network garten of banban 4 share accessible to your PC, you can map the network share to a drive letter. Open File Explorer in Windows, right-click on "This PC," and select "Map network drive."
