So I'm new to Ubuntu servers, and as an idiot, didn't completely listen to the guide

So I followed the 2 guides for the " Configure Transmission for VPN Split Tunneling Ubuntu 16.04 + Debian 8" Guide Link.
And it worked flawlessly, the only problem, was that I forgot that I configured my machine to have a static ip from the machine itself. It worked fine for a day or two, but after a reboot, I cannot get out of maintenance mode, and keep getting a "failed to start raise network interfaces." and cannot get it to boot. This was done using This guide
If someone can help me reverse this mistake I would be happier than you can imagine. I can also post a journalctl log if that would be of any help.
Thank you very much for reading, and I look forward to hearing back from you guys soon.

I've never personally set up static IP directly on the system, ive always done it from the router. but a quick google search got me here:
Code:
sudo nano /etc/network/interfaces
You will see this:
Code:
auto eth0
iface eth0 inet static
address 10.0.0.100
netmask 255.255.255.0
network 10.0.0.1
broadcast 10.0.0.255
gateway 46.185.128.91
Replace it with:
Code:
auto eth0
iface eth0 inet dhcp
Then restart networking components.
Code:
sudo /etc/init.d/networking restart
Since you are stuck in maintenance this obviously poses an issue. Boot up and when it prompts you to open maintenance mode. It should log you in as root, so you may not need "sudo" in any of the the above commands.
I would then reboot
Let me know if this helps. If not, I'm sure we can find something.

Okay I did that, and my router is seeing it as a reserved I.p. Which is good. I can also connect to the Internet. Now I seem to be having another on going issue. And that is that whenever I reboot my pc, an hdd is somehow corrupt! (what is the correct way to shut down your pc so this doesn't happen!?) here's the Log file

Data corruption is not my forte. Sorry. But to answer your question, i either use the gui menu or terminal I.e sudo systemctl restart. I rarely shutdown my Linux box as it is my server. But not just unplugging it while it is writing sounds like a good start =)

Hahaha that's the crazy thing! Whenever I do shut it off, it's either with sudo reboot or sudo shutoff, never just cold. But thank you very much with fixing my networking issue

Hey, I also wanted to ask you. Do you know how to set up the split vpn to change servers based on the highest speed? right now the guide on the site only lets you set up for one server, but that can't be good. seeing as how its the same ip over and over

I have been looking at something like that myself. I am still working on the net speed portion of it, but the end game would be to hot swap openvpn.conf with another similar .conf file the only difference would be to point to a different server where it says "sweden.piablahblahblah.com" with something like "sweden.blahblah.com" another thing to do would be changing ports examples here. in this file we can also beef up or dumb down our encryption levels if you so choose. All of this is assuming you are using PIA ;-). This link should help with the encryption. I'm sure mike or drake may have a better answer with the net speed checks?

I am actually looking to be able to pause usenet traffic if a torrent is initiated. or if I boot up an MMO or console. something along those lines would be great if i am remotely adding torrents and don't have direct access to my server or at least a pc as I usually have 2 different live USBs on my just in case ;-)
