I have just run
Power hard drive if it is 2.5"
It was set to "1". then I ran
Mount your hard drive
No Errors, but when I rebooted I get Failed to mount /mnt/usbstorage. Dependancy failed for local file system. then at the bottom
to boot to default mode.
Give root password for maintainance
(or type Control-D to continue)
Can anyone help please?

That happened to me too, there is an error in your /etc/fstab which you need to correct in maintenance mode. You must test your /etc/fstab file with sudo mount -a
Systemd is dumb like this and forces you into maintenance mode when something doesn't work for some unknown reason.

Worked it out myself. I was confused about quotations mentioned in the guide. I used uuid="xxxx-xxxx" and "vfat". Changed it to xxxx-xxxx and vfat. the drive is mounted, plex is running, libraries built and playing on my phone, ipad & ATV. JUST GOT TO CRACK VIDEO STREAMING & FILE SHARING! Think about Plex Pass & hopefully relax to enjoy my Pi.

Problems installing ss-plex! Failed miserably trying to install ss-plex.bundle.
1st attepmt pi@raspberrypi:/var/lib/plexmediaserver/Library/Application Support/Plex Media Server/Plug-ins$ wget https://codeload.github.com/mikew/ss-ple...zip/stable

2nd attempt Downloaded the SS-plex zip from Github. Unzipped it and renamed it .bundle. Using FileZilla loged in as pi tried to copy it from my mac to
/var/lib/plexmediaserver/Library/Application Support/Plex Media Server/Plug-ins. Again permission denied.
3rd attempt. Using FileZilla loged in as root and copied it from my mac to /var/lib/plexmediaserver/Library/Application Support/Plex Media Server/Plug-ins.
Success. Restarted Plex but couldn't find SS-Plex in Channels!
Checked the .bundle folder in FileZilla and saw permissions are root root.
Do I have a permissions problem with /var/lib/plexmediaserver/Library/Application Support/Plex Media Server/Plug-ins.?

Good efforts, trying different stuff is half the fun.
If you are following this guide then do the become root part and the permission issue will disappear

Thanks for the encouragement.
Getting Plex to work has been both frustrating and stimulating. But a good exercise for someone of my age! The best thing I've learned is to take my time and read your excellent guides carefully. Think through what they're telling me to do before starting. Don't jump straight in with both feet.
I now have ss-plex. Guess what? tried to play a video and get the dreaded "not powerful enough" I've modified the plex.js in /usr/lib/plexmediaserver/Resources/Plug-ins-4601e39/WebClient.bundle/Contents/Resources/js .
Set the Transcoder temporary directory to /mnt/usbstorage. Rebooted plex but still get "not powerful enough"
Would you like me to re-join that thread?
Also one more question.
Is there an elegant way to make Plex output Photos through the HDMI Port?

The plex is not powerful enough error is a tricky one, you can look through that thread and try searching for other versions of the plex.js. To my knowledge people are still investigating, however, if you are using subtitles you are pretty much screwed. Do put those questions in that thread so we can try and keep things organized.
I don't use Plex for photos but are you try to get the photos to output on the Banana Pi? If so I don't think that is possible unless you run a web browser on the PMS machine and browse to its server interface to browse the Plex photos. It would be better to have a proper plex client connected to the HDMI device.
