DLNA Tag config

Hi. I have successfully installed MiniDLNA with help from these forums.

An interesting result has emerged that I haven't found a resolution for on this or other forums.

When accessing music content albums are listed in alphabetical order rather than track order.  Now this might not be important if you prefer playlists or random access, but frankly you cannot appreciate Abbey Road or anything by Pink Floyd with this arrangement!

What I have noticed is that tags must be being applied because even if I modify the file name, the tracks are still described by their track name not file name.

A limited investigation suggests that the Jessie repository include a tag related 'lib' but no obvious way of manipulating tags in the DNLA config to change how albums are sorted by the consuming app/player.

So if anyone has experienced this problem and found a solution I would very much appreciate any assistance you can give.

It seems miniDLNA doesn't sort, it is actually the miniDLNA client that decides the sorting according to this thread. You were using that fancy program that miniDLNA connects to, so the option should be in there somewhere.

Yes I did suspect that.  However, when I used Plex streamed from my Home PC via DLNA the music is sorted in the right order.  My assumption was that Plex managed the order as part of the streaming service. 

I'll go back to the Muzo help and see if they can shed any light on the issue.

Interesting, I know that Plex does not follow DLNA protocol standards (at least I read it somewhere) so you may need to give Plex another go if Muzo doesn't let you change the sort order.

I think I did mention I've used the Plex DLNA from a Pi on my Windows machine before so it's definitely possible.

Sorry the miniDLNA solution hasn't given you the complete experience you're after!

Problem solved.  I appreciate that guides may have pointed this out but until you recognise the context you may choose to ignore it when creating the basic set-up.

So the answer is below. You will need to find the #force_sort_criteria comment.  Simply uncomment the line and check that the criteria includes Track Number.

Now this works for Audi streaming and means that albums play in the order the artist intended.  However, I would caution re the impact on video files in case to shows or movies are affected.

    force_sort_criteria
            Always set SortCriteria to this value, regardless of the
            SortCriteria passed by the clien t. ( E.g.
            force_sort_criteria=+upnp:class,+upnp:originalTrackNumber,+dc:title
            )

Verify that the track number tags in your music files are sequential strands and match the intended track order of the album.
