As root, try remounting
Code:
sudo mount -o remount,rw /
Something is definitely funky though, I know things changed a bit but it was not this much of a struggle!
Are you able to read or write anywhere else on the hard drive?

nope I'm not able to write anything, it says "read-only file system".
I typed:
Code:
# sudo mount -o remount,rw /
mount: / not mounted or bad option
In some cases useful info is found in syslog - try
dmesg | tail or so.
then as suggested:
Code:
dmesg | tail

The syntax might be slightly different for the remounting
Code:
mount -o remount,rw /dev/sda1 /
You can also try starting from scratch and run a slightly different rsync command
rsync -aAXvP / /tmp/sata
or
rsync -aAXvP --exclude={"/dev/*","/proc/*","/sys/*","/tmp/*","/run/*","/mnt/*","/media/*","/lost+found","/etc/sysconfig/network-scripts/*","/etc/network/interfaces"} /* /tmp/sata/
I will try and find time to run some tests

Code:
mount -o remount,rw /dev/sda1 /
This makes me write on the filesystem.
But I guess i should make a script to run it after reboot. Maybe it's better to startover again with the different rsync command you suggested.
I'll try as soon as possibile and let you know.
Thanks Mike!

Excellent! Very close now. If you would be so kind as to document the exact process that works for you I will update the guide once you've shared the information. I should mention you should not expand the sd card or run any commands other than moving the system to the SATA drive.

Yep of course I will post the exact process as soon as possible. Actually I've tried both expanding and not the SD file system, but nothing seems to change.
Btw I will follow the steps (some I had already written down) and your suggestions to make a clean installation and point everything to HDD (I'm using a USB HDD, but should be the same), hoping everything will work fine.
Then I should buy the right cable to power an old little sata ssd and try with it (so bad I can't make one my self, or maybe you know how )
Updating soon!

Mike, I really appreciate your help!
I've tried both rsync possibilities you suggested, but the result is the same: read-only file system on the usb hdd
Remounting with
Code:
mount -o remount,rw /dev/sda1 /
actually works, but I have to remount every time I reboot. Wich I think isn't that good, even if I create a script for "auto-remount" at reboot or using crontab, it's not the way it should work... I would like to fix it, but I don't know how to solve.
Maybe there is something wrong in fstab? I'm not sure where could be the problem.

It must be something with fstab, it should look like this (although I would remove noatime to and including commit)
/dev/sda1 / ext4 defaults,noatime,nodiratime,data=writeback,commit=600,errors=remount-rw 0 0

That's exactly how my fstab looks like, but still a remount is needed at every reboot. The noatime/nodiratime should not influence the mounting process, and the commit is just for saving sometimes, it should not affect either.
BTW I've made a @reboot remount in crontab to "patch" this. I can write the whole process I've done here or I can open a new thread or modify first post to make it cleaner. What do you prefer Mike?

Yay, thank you for writing it up. If you can add a section to the bottom of your first post saying SOLUTION: that would be great and very much appreciated. I will then update the guide to point to your post
