Hi, id like to share my plan and would like to hear from you if you think it is possible/a desirable setup.
Some facts: I'm running PMS on a RPI 3 and use it to stream to all devices in my home (Chromecast iPads phone laptop beamer etc.)
The problem: I once tried connecting a Chromecast to my beamer to stream media to it over wifi. This didn't work because I use a HDMI to VGA converter which tells the Chromecast to feed it 1080p resolution. Something the beamer cannot display (720p max). There is no way to force a Chromecast to use a custom/lower resolution. So for now when I want to stream to my beamer I have to hook up my laptop and use Plex home theater. This is quite a hassle.
What I'd like to do: I have a spare rpi2 lying around which I could use as a dedicated player for just my beamer. I have no experience with kodi. Would it work? And is the RPI 2 powerful enough to play hd media?

Can you elaborate on what this beamer is exactly?
You can use RasPlex on the Pi 2 which is a Plex Client if Plex is your main media server distribution system.

Beamer=projector Sorry that's what most of us call in in the Netherlands.
As for your suggestion, rasplex might be a better option (right?) And yes, Plex is my main (and only) media distribution system.

Yea I'd give RasPlex a whirl to see how it performs.
Beamer is a very cool name, better than projector

Well there you go, you have my permission to call them beamers from now on
I'll try rasplex and let you know my findings.

I actually also assumed that beamer was an English word but it seems that it's actually German and been used only in Dutch and German.
Beamer is used in English but there it's used as a name for a BMW.
That's it for this week's language lesson

Right, so I loaded up rasplex to my old pi 2. Works like a charm. Here comes the next problem. I'd like to stream the audio to my room speakers which are connected to a Bluetooth receiver. Using a cable really isn't an option as the beamer is on the opposite side of the room, and I don't want to run cables across the room
I know the pi2 doesn't have BT built in, would it work with a BT dongle? Is it supported by rasplex?
As a last resort I could swap the rpi2 now running rasplex, for my main rpi3 which does have BT built in. However, I'd prefer keeping the more powerful pi3 as my main server.

OK so I swapped SD cards between te pi2 and pi3 to see if the pi3 would connect to bt audio receiver on my speakers. It finds the receiver just fine in rasplex. However, it doesn't connect. It spits out the error: "Bluetooth error, protocol not available".
I have no experience with openelec. Does anyone know if it is possible to stream audio to a Bluetooth device at all? If not, are there other options to make this work?

Depending on the linux distro you use the bluetooth drivers will need to be either included or installed. If they are included or installed then they will have to be configured using a configuration file somewhere. Unfortunately I don't have a bluetooth device with which to test.

Yeah i figured. Aparently rasplex is a no-go. It does support BT. But only for keyboards, no audio.
So I loaded osmc. Apparently it is possible to stream audio to and from osmc on a RPI. Will keep trying. If there's anyone on this forum that has thus working, please let me know.
